Can snacks save the planet??? I know what you're thinking with a question like that. The answer is obviously no, right? Well, it's actually a little more nuanced than that. This week's lesson, a slightly belated celebration of Earth Day 2016, is about two entrepreneurs on a mission to reduce the amount of food wasted by farms and markets and pay people fairly for their work, all whilst making money out of it.
Students will read for main ideas and specific details in a Guardian article about a company called Snact. They will practise the of vocabulary of consumption and production, before giving a presentation on their suggestions for dealing with the most pressing environmental issues facing the world.
Many young people care about the state of the planet, and past environmental mistakes are things that younger generations are being asked to solve. We hope that this lesson, along with others on this topic provided in this week's newsletter, can help students to begin grapple with these issues so that they can leave the Earth in a better state than they found it for future generations.
